Passengers laud FG on remodeling project

…. Nigerian airports experience increase in passenger traffic

A cross examination of  the remodeling project taking place at all airports in Nigeria shows that the exercise has brought  a significant increase in passenger traffic at all airports.

A total of 3, 807,001 passengers used the airports in the third quarter of 2013 as against 3, 524, 497 passengers in the third quarter of 2012 representing a growth of eight percent, investigation shows.

This growth according to Dati Yakubu, spokesperson for Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), is attributable to the massive investment in the airports such as the expansion of the ‘E’ and ‘D’ fingers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, the busiest airport in the country and the installation of modern facilities such as conveyor belts, security screening machines, immigration counters and transit lounges.

“The Airport Remodeling Project is a key component of the Aviation Master Plan initiated by Princess Stella Oduah, Minister of Aviation. It is designed to modernize all the 22 airports terminals in the country making them more customer and investment friendly,” Dati said.

However, a cross section of passenger interviewed shows that they now heave a sigh of relief with the new face of the airports

A passenger, who simply identified himself as Demilade lauded Federal Government and the Ministry of Aviation for the reform stating that at least the administration will leave a good legacy behind

Another passenger, Frederick affirmed that unlike previous ministers, the current minister gave the airport a cosmetic approach look as it is popularly called.

According to him, “At least the minister is still doing something, unlike before that everywhere was haggard, and tattered with beggars found at each corner of the airports,  let the world see it as cosmetic approach, but she has done something. If her predecessor started what she is currently doing, she would have continued from where they stop, so don’t let us criticize the person that makes attempt to beautify and glorify the airports,” he maintained.
